INSA LYON WINS THE "WELCOME IN FRANCE" LABEL WITH 3 STARS!
After the submission of its application in 2019, INSA Lyon has just been awarded the "Welcome to France" label with the highest 3-star distinction! Created by Campus France, the label recognizes higher education institutions that offer a high-quality welcome to students, according to the best international standards.
France, which is one of the top 5 host countries for international students, is implementing the "Welcome to France" strategy, which aims to greet 500,000 new students by 2027. With this objective, the label was created to strengthen the international visibility of universities and the recognition of their welcome policies.
Therefore, INSA Lyon is now one of the 89 institutions among the 183 that are applying for the label. Awarded for 4 years, this distinction reflects one of the institution's deep and long-term commitments.
Indeed, since its creation more than 60 years ago, INSA Lyon has been strongly supporting diversity and has always made it a priority that all its students feel at home, no matter where they come from.
Among the main features of its welcome facilities, INSA Lyon counts 11 residences that can accommodate more than 3,000 students, as well as catering services with very competitive rates. The campus life is animated by a powerful community of 130 student associations which are 100% from INSA. There are many tools to facilitate the integration of students, such as the French summer and winter schools, free FLE courses, welcome packages, and the buddy system for exchange students launched in 2019.
Efforts are constant at INSA Lyon and are even more important now to maintain a high-quality welcome, in this exceptional situation created by COVID. International mobility has always been at the heart of INSA Lyon's priorities. It leads to new considerations, to allow more flexibility for international students, such as the continuation of on-line courses or the "hybrid" mobility supported by the Erasmus+ program.
*academic exchange organized with both on-site lessons and distance learning

Un service FLE 3 étoiles à l'INSA Lyon
The Interministerial Certification Committee recently awarded 3 stars to the INSA Lyon French as a foreign language Department (FLE Department). INSA Lyon has always made a point of welcoming international students the best possible and is greatly pleased to have been awarded this LABEL that highlights true commitment to provide high quality courses.
Three questions to Lise Aumeunier, in charge of the INSA Lyon FLE Department, at the ‘Centre des Humanités’.
What has been particularly awarded is the development of an adequate training offer at INSA Lyon FLE centre. What does it mean ?
The FLE centre offers a training programme that meets the needs of engineering students. Compared to other engineering schools in France, INSA Lyon FLE Department is very well structured and the training programme is contextualized according to INSA Lyon’s teaching methodology. As an example, thematic modules to discover Lyon City through urbanism, environment and architecture help students get used to technical courses in French.
What are the INSA Lyon FLE Department’s objectives?
About 745 students take advantage of the FLE classes and activities each year. This training aims at facilitating the students’ integration, thanks to French language courses depending on training objectives, fundamental science courses and social science courses. INSA Lyon welcomes 30% of foreign students representing more than 100 nationalities. There is no French language prerequisite to enter INSA Lyon which explains the importance of having a high quality FLE offer to insure students’ academic achievement.
For 10 years, the FLE Department has been providing a high quality training programme and has recently been awarded three stars. The Qualité français langue étrangère certification was created in 2007 with a view to identify, recognize and promote French foreign language Schools whose language teaching and services presented assurances of quality. The Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture agreed to deliver this label of quality .
What does this award represent for your team and INSA Lyon?
This three stars label represents the quality of the FLE training and brings the level up to prestigious universities languages schools, such as the CIEF at Université Lyon 2 and the CUEF at Université de Grenoble Alpes. This proves the constant improvement of the training offer that meets five criteria: quality training, teaching staff, welcome of foreign students and premises. This label gives confidence to students and helps them identify high quality certified learning school.
I would like to thank all my colleagues at INSA Lyon that have worked with us to show the importance of doing our best to welcome international students. This label promotes and recognizes the high quality FLE Department at INSA Lyon, abroad and in France.
