INSA LYON

dBCatch brings together strong regional technological skills, in acoustics, electronics, image processing to provide a response to the societal challenges of the health of residents of urban areas confronted with the excessive noise emission level of certain vehicles. Thus around the SME MicrodB, the research association Acoucité, the SME Foxstream, the ETI Centum Adeneo and the LVA research laboratory of INSA are committed to an ambitious project prefiguring the "acoustic radar" of tomorrow, to which several other regions (Nice in PACA, Paris in IDF) and countries (London, Cantons of Vaud and Geneva) are also beginning to reflect; Europe also launched a call for projects on this theme in 2018.

The prototype of this equipment is also intended to contribute to the development of the regulations for the measurement of in situ passenger noise provided for in amendment no. 2984 of the mobility orientation law.

On the technological level, the problem to be solved is to isolate the noise of the offending vehicle from the others and to weight it against the external factors linked to the weather. For this, a dedicated 3D acoustic antenna, based on network techniques of MEMs sensors and fusion of heterogeneous data (acoustics, video, weather) will be developed. This experiment will be accompanied by a field survey to measure the subjective and objective impact of such a device.

At the end of this project, the prototype will have made it possible to validate the lifting of the main technological obstacles, the experimentation to define the operating limits and the impact of such a device, and to acquire an initial database.
