The electrification of means of transport involves the development of converters from battery DC voltage to AC voltage for motors. Increasing the performance of these power converters requires very high performance power electronic components, such as Gallium Arsenide (GaN) transistors. The consequence is a very high power density to be dissipated as heat (> 500 W/cm2).

IMC integration transforms supply chains into Smart Manufacturing Networks (SMNs) capable of withstanding disruptions. A Digital Twin represents SMN data, training machine learning models to predict disruptions. AI algorithms provide real-time reporting on a dashboard.

In the context of maritime surveillance or anti-submarine warfare, knowledge of the acoustic field radiated or diffracted by a device immersed in water is essential for its operational or tactical use, as well as for its design. Monitoring systems include active and passive sonar devices. A passive sonar system exploits the noise radiated by the vehicule (submersible vessel, surface ship, drone, etc.) it seeks to detect. These radiated noises are generated by existing onboard machinery, cavitation, hydrodynamic flows, impulsive and transient sources, etc.

Le projet P4Hydro vise à améliorer les performances énergétiques et la pilotabilité des engins off-road et des transmissions de puissance éoliennes. Ces objectifs seront atteints par la mise au point d’une génératrice éolienne piézohydraulique et de moteurs/pompes hydrauliques à haut rendement, équipés de valves piézohydrauliques rapides spécifiques développées au cours du projet. Les moteurs et la nouvelle transmission éolienne seront finalement testés sur des machines réelles.

Ce projet a été financé par l’État dans le cadre de France 2030.

Aluminum alloys are used extensively in aircraft due to their high strength-to-weight ratio. A main drawback is that their microstructure is sensitive to corrosion, which generates pits for example. Although corrosion damage can be detected by non-destructive testing methods, such methods are limited in their ability to identify corrosion initiation and the mechanism behind the defect. As a result, corrective actions are only undertaken when corrosion becomes evident (cracks or loss of thickness).

Underwater hull cleaning is an important part of ship maintenance, which includes all techniques used to keep the part of the ship under the waterline in good condition. The EU-funded BugWright2 project will develop and demonstrate an adaptable autonomous robotic solution for servicing the outer hulls of ships. It will combine the survey capabilities of autonomous micro air vehicles (MAV) and small autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) with teams of magnetic-wheeled crawlers operating directly on the surface of the structure.

The project aims to develop ultra-light, self-correcting mirrors for use in the next generation of large optical telescopes and solar energy concentrators. Presently, the best mirrors have a density of about one-half a metric-ton per square-meter or more in order to provide the stiffness which is necessary to keep the optical shape under the variable conditions given by the changing gravity vector as the telescopes track a position on the sky, as well as to withstand variable wind conditions.
