The SMS-ID laboratory of INSA Lyon and the Geosynthetics producer Texinov have decided to participate to the ANR project called “LadCom”. This project consists in creating a common laboratory called PITAGOR.
The aim of this new laboratory is to develop innovative geosynthetics and experimental activities to characterize them. This laboratory will have been destined for four main targets:
- improve and complete the laboratory characterization tests of TEXINOV and SMS-ID, allowing the development of standardized procedures to validate the new developed geosynthetics,
- help TEXINOV to design new reinforcement geosynthetics to improve its European and worldwide competitive position, especially in environmental fields,
- improve the experimental research activity and the numerical modelling in the SMS-ID team,
- participate to the formation of students (Master intership, PhD…)
Design of new geosynthetics is strongly dependent on laboratory characterization for mechanical and chemical strengths, for set up damage and for sustainable. Design, setting up and standardization of new tests are necessary to ensure the development of new geosynthetics for which existing standards are not efficient.
PITAGOR laboratory will have to highlight interactions between geosynthetics and soil. The understanding of the reinforced construction behavior will enable TEXINOV to innovate or to improve existing products.
A specific part of the project will be dedicated for the design of monitoring geosynthetics. This twice function “reinforcement / monitoring” answers to the project owner requests to ensure the long term safety of their reinforced constructions.
Targets of PITAGOR laboratory are ambitious but faithful, the dynamism of TEXINOV in innovation and experimental competencies of SMS-ID laboratory will allow bringing realistic answers and quickly practicable.
