ANR JCJC - METASMART : The intimacy of matter
Generalized continuum theories are nowadays successfully employed to account for the macroscopic manifestations of microstructures on the mechanical behavior of heterogeneous materials such as fibrous composite reinforcements, concrete, etc.
On the other hand, the use of continuum theories for the description of the behavior of metamaterials inhibiting elastic wave propagation is a rather unexplored field, due to the current use of microscopic models which account for the microstructures topologies of such metamaterials in an extremely detailed way.
We propose to use a generalization of the relaxed micromorphic model for the description, in a macroscopic ramework, of the behavior of such metamaterials. The elastic parameters of the relaxed micromorphic model will be calibrated on ‘in silico’ tests as well as on experiments.
This modeling/simulation/experimental approach will allow the conception of morphologically complex metastructures which are able to stop wave propagation
