Accreditation of Prior Learning and Prior Experiential Learning

INSA Lyon is authorised to award all engineering degrees via the Accreditation of Prior Learning and Prior Experiential Learning, or AP(E)L.

An engineering degree awarded via an AP(E)L procedure is the same as that awarded through initial education.

The evaluation criteria for prior and experiential learning are every bit as demanding as those that apply to higher education studies.

The skills required for each degree are described in the corresponding competency framework.

The candidate must provide a written report and be interviewed by an AP(E)L committee. In both cases, he/she must clearly demonstrate the balance between his/her skills acquired through prior and experiential learning and those listed in the degree's competency framework.

Accreditation of Prior Learning and Prior Experiential Learning - Rates:

  • Feasibility study of the candidate's application: € 104
  • Pedagogical support and assistance: € 1,530
  • Enrolment fees: € 2,550

What is the AP(E)L?

Anyone, regardless of age, nationality, status or level of education, who can justify at least three years of experience directly related to the targeted certification, can benefit from an Accreditation of Prior Learning and Prior Experiential Learning. This certification can be any degree, diploma, title or professional qualification certificate registered in the National Directory of Professional Certification (Répertoire national des certifications professionnelles, RNCP).
