The LaMCoS laboratory at INSA-Lyon has acquired a Meltio M600 metal additive manufacturing machine for industrial applications involving remanufacturing and functional add-ons.

Summary non confidential

The BLUE-WLAM project involves the acquisition of a MELTIO M600 industrial machine using the DED (direct energy deposition) process known as WLAM (Wire Laser Additive Manufacturing).

This type of process offers very interesting prospects for sustainable industrial development. Its applications are mainly aimed at upgrading damaged,

high added-value parts by repairing them (circular economy); increasing the agility of production lines through hybridization (repairing parts rejected during upstream stages of the manufacturing process,

customizing parts through surface functionalization or by adding volume functions). .

The machine is particularly efficient due to its technical characteristics:

-Blue laser: improved energy efficiency of laser melting of metal alloys /

possibility of melting highly reflective metals such as copper or aluminum in the usual wavelength of near-infrared lasers.

-Inert chamber: possibility of shaping highly reactive alloys (titanium).

-Multi-material nozzle, allowing the sequential deposition of 4 different wires.

This opens up prospects for 4D printing applications in which the deposited material varies according to the spatial position and specified properties.
