The building and construction sector accounts for around 39% of global annual greenhouse gas emissions, making it a key focal point in the global effort to combat climate change. In terms of material complexity and total energy consumption, the building stock ranks the highest. Despite enormous efforts, there is a need to adopt innovative approaches to building renovation and construction for identifying solutions that withstand climatic hazards and sense the environment.

For this reason, B’THINK (funding under construction )aims to develop a new generation of biosourced superinsulating inks with sensing functionalities. Reaching TRL 4 by the end of the project seeking European funds, we will achieve high thermal efficiency and embedded intelligence, ensuring optimal performance in diverse retrofitting scenarios, with minimal environmental impacts and costs.

Can we, in the near future, avoid demolishing buildings (fast obsolescence) by using local resources, reducing heat loss (through superinsulant, SI), predicting degradation behaviour, detecting harmful pollutants (sensing) while preserving the aesthetic heritage of existing structures
