Recent advances in signal processing have made it possible to design new digital imaging systems. Single-pixel imaging is a new paradigm that enables two-dimensional imaging from a point detector. It has raised increasing attention because it allows high-performance optical imaging systems (e.g., hyperspectral and/or time-of-flight measurements) at very low cost.
The main goal of this Project is to demonstrate the feasibility of single-pixel biomedical imaging in image-guided surgery. However, current single-pixel cameras are two slow to operate in real time, which precludes their applications to this field. In this Project, we aim to develop a single-pixel video acquisition set-up together with dedicated algorithms to image with a 1024x768 resolution at 10 frames per second, which is 10-100 times faster than the state-of-the-art approaches.
Beyond cost reductions, single-pixel cameras coupled with spectrometers and/or time counting single pixel counting boards should improve current imaging techniques.
