The building and construction sector accounts for around 39% of global annual greenhouse gas emissions, making it a key focal point in the global effort to combat climate change. In terms of material complexity and total energy consumption, the building stock ranks the highest. Despite enormous efforts, there is a need to adopt innovative approaches to building renovation and construction for identifying solutions that withstand climatic hazards and sense the environment.
