The QS ranking presents several rankings by specialisation, including "Engineering & Information Technology" which is INSA Lyon's section. In this ranking, INSA Lyon appears in the 132nd place and in the 4th place for French engineering schools, behind "Polytechnique" (36th overall), Grenoble INP (102nd overall) and the Ecole Centrale de Paris (124th overall).

What is the QS?

The British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has been publishing the "QS World University Rankings" for 8 years. It is one of the three world rankings that exist today, along with the one published by the British monthly magazine "Times Higher Education" and the famous ranking established by the Jiao Tong University of Shanghai.

QS bases its study on 6 indicators:

• the views of peers via a survey (accounting for 40%);
• the opinion of recruiters via a survey (accounting for 10%);
• the ratios of teachers to students (accounting for 20%);
• the number of mentions in scientific journals over five years (from the Scopus database), relative to the number of researchers (accounting for 20%);
• the ratio of international students (accounting for 5%);
• the ratio of international teacher-researchers (accounting for 5%).
