The 'CLES FACIL' association competing across the Atlantic

The CanSat ARLISS competition is one of the largest in the world with significant resources coming from American space enthusiasts. Teams from Japan, the USA, Norway, Korea and France took part in the competition from 12 to 17 September 2010. A single team represented France for the first time at this major event: CLES FACIL from INSA Lyon.

Four members from INSA Lyon's rocket club travelled to the United States to take part in the competition. Their CanSat Altaïr II made a nominal flight, after being released at an altitude of over 3,500m! The aim of the manoeuvre was to test a completely new stabilisation system, based on a first stabilising parachute, and the opening the paragliding canopy once the module is in stable flight.

The team's participation in Arliss was extremely fulfilling, with many new discoveries, encounters and amazing experiences; above all, the Altaïr proved itself!
