City of Lyon young researcher’s prize for 2012

Loic Grevillot, prize-winner from the CREATIS laboratory

To express its interest in young researchers as vectors of creation, innovation and influence, the City of Lyon has been awarding Young Researchers’ Prizes (PJC in French) for a number of years. Four prizes honouring discoveries in fields of “Global Health and Society” and “Science and Engineering for Sustainable Development”.

On Friday, September 28th, four young researchers selected from 40 candidates were awarded prizes for their research work carried out in universities, academies or laboratories in the Lyon urban district. This increases the standing of researchers, actors in creation and innovation, and the influence of Lyon and its urban district.

Loïc Grevillot, from the Lyon INSA, a biomedical engineer, was one of the prize-winners in the “Global Health and Society” section. For three years, he has been working on hadrontherapy, an innovative radiotherapy technique for treating cancer.

Loïc did his thesis at the CREATIS laboratory, in the context of the European PARTNER project, in collaboration with the IBA Company and the Léon Bérard cancer research centre. Its subject was devoted to Monte-Carlo simulations for predicting the distribution of doses when treating cancer by protontherapy.
