Summer School 2011

Reflection on the policy of pro-diversity

From August 1st to September 9, 2011, INSA Lyon will welcome more than 400 students who will take part in the 2011 Summer School.

For 300 of these students, this Summer School is, first and foremost, a summer language school. Students from international undergraduate sections to Chinese Masters and Doctoral candidates from partner universities, as well as all exchange students and those directly admitted to specialization departments: all levels of study are represented here. For 5 weeks, these students will take part in intensive French classes organized by the INSA Lyon’s French as a Foreign Language Department (FLE) and international undergraduates will be offered refresher courses in various scientific subjects.

Other publics will also be present during August, for example, students from the different technological Baccalaureates who will integrate the INSA Lyon undergraduate Active Science Training(FAS) section. They will attend a summer science school to ensure that their scientific knowledge base is homogeneous and solid and to create group cohesion to help make their INSA Lyon studies a success. Students included in agreements with Rhône-Alpes region and DOM-TOM high schools will also be present and will benefit from a variety of science-based classes. Importance is also attached to modules that deal with working methods and to on-hand experiences of the world of engineering through visits and conferences.

Finally, INSA Lyon hosts a program for students who will integrate Grandes Ecole Preparatory Classes (CPGE) in the Rhône-Alpes region, in partnership with EM LYON Business School, the Ecole Normale Supérieur (ENS), the ECAM (Engineering School), VetAgro Sup and the Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University. Apart from these classes, a rich and varied activity program is proposed to students every evening during the week and at weekends. This program aims to provide intense cultural exchange between the various nationalities present and a discovery of French cultural heritage; in a friendly and joyful atmosphere. This program is the result of the joint effort of the INSA departments and the INSA Lyon Students’ Office which will be responsible for implementing the program in August.

For the last few months, the Directorate General for Departments has been coordinating the schedules and logistics aspects for all the programs with the restaurant management,

Personalized hospitality for new foreign engineering students

For the 4th year running, INSA Lyon engineers will take care of foreign engineering students who will be starting their 1st year program and who have taken part in a French language course over the summer.

They will be invited to dinner with a family between Monday August 8 and Tuesday September 6 inclusive (except Saturdays and Sundays). In addition to the commitment of INSA Lyon engineers, this project is carried out in partnership with staff from the establishment and with local elected representatives from Villeurbanne City Hall (for the 2nd year running). It offers young people the opportunity to enjoy some time with families from the region.
