A sponsor for the metro B tunnel boring machine
Thanks to her unique motivation, Elodie Parrinello, a young graduate from INSA Lyon specialised in Civil Engineering and Urban Planning, has been selected as the sponsor for the Metro B tunnel boring machine following a competitive tender. Her initiative associates INSA Lyon and the GCU department with the major engineering projects that are transforming the Lyon urban area.
In keeping with the tradition for underground work sites, the metro B tunnel boring machine was baptised on 22 September 2010 in the presence of Bernard Rivalta, the President of SYTRAL, and Gérard Collomb, the Senator-Mayor of Lyon and President of the Greater Lyon Council. This gigantic machine, baptised "Agathe" by Elodie (after her nice who was born in April when the tunnel borer arrived in Lyon), measures 9.5m in diameter, 70m in length and weighs almost 1,300 tonnes. "Agathe" started digging at the Gerland site and will re-surface in Oulllns at the end of 2011.
