Re-opening of "La Rotonde" and focus on the CGR

Managed 100% by students

On 4 November 2011, the "Rotonde Management Commission" (CGR) organised an evening event to mark the end of the first phase of renovation work on La Rotonde (the Rotunda), as well as the start of the 2011-2012 cultural programme. It was an opportunity to discover or re-discover this former amphitheatre redesigned as a 400-seat event venue, managed entirely by students.

Presentation of the main refurbishments and different stakeholders

The renovation work on La Rotonde was made possible thanks to the financial support of INSA Lyon and the Foundation. The "Direction du Patrimoine" (Real-Estate Assets Directorate) and the CGR were responsible for studying and finalising the different modifications and establishing the work schedule.

The renovation work includes:

- Air purification with a ventilation system on all levels of La Rotonde (main hall, 1st and 2nd basement levels),
- New false ceiling replacing the old one, which had greatly deteriorated,
- New stage wiring,
- New lighting for the hall (also adapted to conferences and seminars),
- Painting of the hall (more sober for shows: black, and more pleasant)
- Laying of acoustic fabric at the back of the hall (better acoustics)
- New stage rails (to safety standards)
- New emergency lighting and exit signs (to standards)

Focus on "La Rotonde" and its 100% student management thanks to the "Rotonde Management Commission" (CGR)

Over the last twenty years, La Rotonde has become a major cultural venue at INSA. Each year, almost 10,000 people fill its seats to see the different shows laid on by the associations or cultural study sections of INSA Lyon. Throughout the year, more than 100 evening events are organised, with cinema (Cineclub), theatre (TTI, "Artscène" or Theatre Studies), music (UDDJ, AMI, Salam’Africa), circus shows (AJIL) or dance ("Artscène", Dance Studies or "Ragda"). Through its event programme, La Rotonde aims to offer quality shows and fulfil an important role in student life. Firstly, by giving everyone the chance to attend shows (low prices and many free shows), and enabling student "artists" to produce their shows. La Rotonde is also open to shows and troupes from outside.

However, in addition to hosting cultural shows, we should also remember that La Rotonde is highly appreciated by the laboratories for hosting their events (symposiums, seminars, etc.).

Based on a protocol signed with the INSA Management team, the CGR is responsible for managing La Rotonde from the beginning to the end of each school year. The Commission is entirely made up of students and is in charge of all technical (rental of sound, light and video equipment) and administrative aspects (receiving associations, managing the event schedule)
