The Department of Mechanical Engineering Design at INSA Lyon trains general mechanical engineers. Studies are organised over six semesters so as to foster curiosity, adaptability, innovation and accountability. This results in:

• the acquisition of working methods built on solid scientific foundations;
   
• a pragmatic, quality and method-oriented approach, with a significant portion of study time devoted to practical assignments on heavy equipment;
   
• awareness of human relations and management techniques;
   
• solid training in foreign languages;
   
• integration into the industrial environment through a five month internship and an end-of- studies project based on a genuine industrial case.
