The goal is to provide itinerant users with the essential services proposed by the Doc'INSA portal.

It was developed by Julien Lacroix, a 5th year student in the Telecommunications, Services and Uses (TC) Department, within the framework of his End of Studies Project entitled "How to improve navigation on the library website for mobile users?". The project was supervised by Guillemette Trognot, the Reception Manager in the SCD Doc’INSA Department.

The project started with a large-scale satisfaction survey conducted from April to May 2012. The aim of the survey was to measure the satisfaction level of different user groups as regards the INSA Lyon library website and its associated services.

The "mobile" website was developed in line with the different expectations expressed during the survey.

What are its key functionalities?

• Document search in the INSA Lyon catalogue
• Practical information (opening times, access, contacts, "accessibility and disability" facilities)
• Room reservation (teaching room, tutorial room, Emilie du Châtelet amphitheatre, room for group work or individual study desk)
• Enquiries to librarians
• Access to library news

The project marks the beginning of a partnership between the TC Department and SCD Doc’INSA which will continue over the coming months. Other engineering students will take the project further by adding functionalities such as geo-location and access to the reader's account. To be continued...
