The Centre Diversity and Success in action
The "Course en cours" (Racing in courses) programme
"Course en cours" (Racing in courses) is a French national educational programme focussed on science and technology, and implemented on a regional level by INSA Lyon’s Centre for Diversity and Success. It is one of the actions organised to support career orientation for school pupils and brings together more than 500 middle and secondary schools as well as 65 higher education establishments. Teams of middle- and secondary-school pupils, supported and tutored by engineering students from INSA Lyon, design a racing car of the future using the same tools and processes as Formula 1 professionals.
Supervised by Nadine Noël and Yann Ricotti, who teach in the Mechanical Engineering and Design Department and the First Cycle Department respectively, the student tutors have been providing technical support over the last 2 years to the teams of pupils involved in the programme from the Lyon Educational Academy. After following an 8-hour course on the 3D CATIA (DASSAULT) design software, the student tutors are fully equipped to support their future teams. Since last year, thanks to the commitment of the tutors and the two professors, several activities have been organised.
This programme encourages dialogue between secondary schools and higher education and provides secondary-school pupils with extensive information about potential post-Baccalaureate (A-level) study paths, while offering students the opportunity to participate in managing a large-scale project.
