In the framework of this call for projects, which resulted in the creation of a “catalogue of best practice and customs” in matters of accessibility, the Ministry of Ecology singled out fourteen exemplary projects from among the 220 submissions. Each of the prize-winners had implemented effective and innovative arrangements in the field of accessibility. The selection criteria related to the quality of use and urban development, aesthetics and innovation, safety, environmental quality, governance and cooperation, and the overall economics of implementation.

The Marie Curie Library, opened in December 2009, is a crucial building for INSA Lyon. Its design allows every individual to benefit from a philosophy of inclusion and control of costs. Cooperation was a significant feature of the project, with frequent consultations of personnel and users, notably in the choice of furniture (ergonomics, aesthetics, comfort and access height).

All links in the usage chain (from physical accesses to the building to document searching) were taken into account and all disabilities were considered in detail. Signing, a leading feature of the project, was designed to facilitate comprehension, visibility and legibility for all users.
