18th ITECH Challenge
Another year, another award: Vincent Vergnon and Benoit Lavigne, two students from the "Locomotion Dynamics and Mechanical Design" Interest Centre in the GMC department won 2nd prize in the "Trophées de l’innovation technologique" (Technological Innovation trophies). They join the long list of their predecessors awarded by the ITECH competition (see the article "EN VUE" October 2009).
This prize is the result of an end-of-studies project developed in conjunction with the company TEXINOV, which wanted to be able to objectively qualify its products in order to better meet its customers' requirements and position itself relative to the competition.
A bibliographical study provided TEXINOV with confirmation that the tests used to qualify their "breathing" fabrics were not suited to their specific requirements and that a special machine was needed.
Their work involved designing, producing and setting up a testing machine for the company which could measure the heat transfer and permeability to water vapour of twisted polyamide films between a warm, humid environment and a cold, dry environment.
Starting out with a blank sheet of paper on 8 February2010, the beginning of their end-of-studies project, the machine and its measuring environment were delivered to TEXINOV on 26 June, the day they defended their project.
