INSA Lyon, identified as a “reservoir of talent and innovation serving business” particularly active in relationships with Japan, as affirmed by the associated international laboratory CNRS ""ELyT-Lab" with Tohuku University, had been chosen as host for this seminar in two parts:

- Excellence Partnerships: facilities deployed for high-level R & D in partnership with the world of business
- Development of human resources – training and recruitment

After world of welcome and introduction from Eric Maurincomme, Director of INSA Lyon, and a presentation of Tohoku University and ELyT Lab by Vice Président Toshiya Ueki, the first part of the evening was devoted to industrial partnerships. Thierry Epicier spoke about his Lyon Microscopy Centre laboratory (CLYM). Following this, KISCO, represented by President Hiroko Ito and her colleagues described a European project coordinated by Jérôme Chevalier from the MATEIS Laboratory, working on materials for use in spinal prosthetics.

In the second part, Jean-Marie Reynouard of the INSA de Lyon Foundation described the placements system in France and the options for recruiting trainees and young engineers.

Shigenobu Watanabe, Joint Director General of JETRO Paris made the closing speech, which was followed by cocktails in the Agora.
The Japanese Consul in Lyon, Mr Shuji Noguchi, was also present at the meeting.
